I'd love to go and see what they looked like so I could get them too. I never had any. That kind of thing gets passed down father to son and my dad was not the biggest outdoors man. lol

FM, imagine the advantage your son will have, he could be the next Daniel Boone.
Same with my father, he spent most of his time working, my neighbors a couple of
former school teacher unmarried sisters started me fishing.

early October is prime time for the schrooms -especially after a rain.

popinki and sheepshead mushrooms are the only two varieties that I can confidently identify.

I often find the redheads that grow in groves of pine trees which are supposedly very good, but never pick them.

I keep telling myself if it's red, you're dead.

I know the sheepshead one thanks to a friend. Seems like after last nights rain today would be prime time to go looking. What type of terrain do you hunt for the popinkies? I believe I heard the oak stumps were a good bet.

Seen some frost on ground tis morning so second round will pop up soon. maybe next week. I don't eat but 2 guys that i was with where thankfull.

They should be.. 4-5 bags of popinkis are worth some serious coin in the store. They are also delicious cooked with a steak or added to tomato sauce for pasta..

sounds like you found a great location

Some mushrooms while I was out picking, these weren't popinki but it's a cool picture.

popinki are flater on top, not curved like a dome as is the pic. also there would be "gills" on the underside.
